About Hastang

Hastang is a Cebu-based band composed of members Ria Redulla (lead vocals), Raul Luche Jr (guitars), Guile Canencia (bass), and Mark Austin Ladanan (drums).

Formed in early 2005, the band’s first big break came in the summer of that year when they made it to the finals of the MTV band showdown held at the SM City Cebu Parking Lot. With their single “Oblivion”, Hastang went on to win first runner-up in the finals.

Since then, the band’s popularity in the indie scene increased as they made frequent appearances in several music bars in the metropolis.

In 2006, the single “Random” began enjoying regular air play - even rising to the top 4 of a local radio station’s weekly countdown. To date, the singles “Oblivion” and “Random” are enjoying regular air time in the Metro Cebu airwaves.

Last year, Hastang commenced the recording of their debut album, which contains 11 original tracks they’ve written and arranged. After four months of studio tracking and mixing, the band wrapped up the recording of the album, which has yet to be released.

In early February of this year, the music video for “Oblivion”, helmed by Rember Gelera, premiered on Myx.

In the summer of 2007, “Random” again made waves after being hand-picked for the original soundtrack of the feature film “Angels”, which starred Angel Locsin, Jennylyn Mercado, Patrick Garcia, and Marvin Agustin, among others. The Angels OST is currently in CD outlets nationwide as well as in select retail stores abroad.

In June of 2008, current Hastang vocalist Ria Redulla replaced former front woman Tessa Manto.

With uncanny deftness, the band combines an aggressive sonic style with lyrical sublimity (courtesy of master lyricist and frequent collaborator Julie Ann Redoble) — no doubt fueled by the diverse musical influences of each of the members.

But the goal remains the same—to create music that resonates with blatant honesty, raw emotion, and unconstrained passion.
